So many sisters, so many mothers, so many friends and so many memories of friends of my wife, we are all here in front of you and we welcome you in the name of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, in the Presidency. For many, she may not be with us but to me she lives not only in my heart but in my spirit and it is in her spirit that I move forward. And it is her concepts and thoughts that I take forward whether it is the card Ms. Farzana Raja has so amicably and efficiently introduced and is MashAllah, by the grace of God, touchwood doing so well or the concept of distributing lands to the women only. It is basically a highway for future projects to be put upon and to be mounted on this highway. I have come from the family where I think the inspiration to me was my mother. I was proud of her then and proud of her today and any man who thinks less of women, does not understand that he is also born of a woman. Ladies you have always played a great role in the history of mankind, whether it is the religion of Islam or the religion of Christianity. All religions have respected and given the right, dignity and honour to women. It is only the traditions created by man in order to prove himself who, by the way, between you and me, I am willing to admit, we are the weaker sex.So, I have no shame, in admitting the fact my mother was always much stronger, my wife was much stronger than me and I have no shame to admit that even after her death, in her death, she has left her legacy which we can carry forward. Even today she guides me. It is her philosophy that we carry forward. It was she who coined the phrase Democracy is the best revenge . The whole philosophy of People s Party has evolved around this phrase that not revenge but freedom is revenge . Today, you have so many issues. Just imagine what issues she must be facing when she was in prison in Sukkar as a 21 years old young girl. At least, I can imagine as I am a father of twenty one years old and a father of seventeen years old. I can imagine a 22 years old girl going to Sukkar prison and fighting for her father, fighting like no other person I have ever seen fight. Throughout her life she made sure that the legacy which her father gave life for, stayed alive and she has passed on this country to me to be passed on to the second generation. She expected the same from me and I am hoping that when history writes down its last words on me. It says and admits that I have come up to the expectations of living in a woman s dreams. Men have often lived in their own dreams but I am living in a women s dream. It was her dream that women in power would bring the soft touch that the world needs. There is too much, too much horror in the world. What we need is the women s face and gentleness of the ladies. It s we who need the perseverance, sustainability, the pain, the stress they cope and live with. It is amazing.Somebody has written Men are from Mars and women are from Venus . That may be so but living on this earth, surely you have to pay tribute to God s divine creation. So once again I thank you all for supporting us and for being with us today. We promise you in the name of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that we shall do our utmost by the end of this tenure. All the rights that we enjoy as men shall be enjoyed by women too and we would be equal partners. Both of my sisters were house wives. They were made the members of the Parliament by my wife. Both my daughters are today stu dying and I am looking forward to their coming and serving the nation along with their brother. So we have to create a Pakistan where my coming generation, my daughters can be proud of the fact that they live as equals. We will make sure that those who wish to harm ideology of Quaid-i-Azam which was for the equality, shall not succeed. Pakistan was equally made for the women as for men. And of course, women among you, are fighting much more than me so I stand by you and assure you that this President will always be a women s President and my doors are always open for you.
As a nation, we face challenges, some of them undeniably tough, like the threat of extremism, a troubled economy, a...
