Assalam-o-Alikum
I welcome you to the Presidency on signing of this auspicious Award. I feel that the democracy has grown and taken its first step which I will consider a leap as far as Pakistani s democracy is
concerned. We have promised in the name of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and in her spirit to write a new Constitution. I feel this being the first step towards binding all the four provinces, all the nations which constitute the demography of Pakistan. I feel, this is a moment for a nation to be proud of, for a country to be proud of and of course, for the people of Pakistan to be proud of democracy in process. Democracy is in action. Democracy is not about winning in the
elections or retaining a position only. Democracy is to demonstrate its strength and considering the fact that we are a fresh new democracy, I would say this is a huge step taken by all. So let me congratulate all the Prime Minister, the Provincial Assemblies, the nation, the powers that
matter, the international community which has supported us and helped democracy to grow. This is but a little time has passed. A year or two have passed since this fresh democracy has come a full circle. Give us time. Give the people of Pakistan a chance and they shall be a supportive group in the world. They will be the reason for getting the world agendas, helping the world to move forward. They will be the part of the solution. The Pakistani nation, by nature, is a giving nation. We have demonstrated this in recent years when times of trouble happened in our brotherly province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when people were dispersed. The Pakhtuns took them in. They took strangers into their houses and helped the Government. This is the true nature.
This is the true making of the DNA of Pakistanis. Yes, we have been misused. Yes, we have been misguided. Sometime, we express our aggression in an uncivilized format. These are our weaknesses but we will work upon all the weakness. This is the promise of democracy
under the guidance of our great leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, in whose name we stand here today and in whose name we help, guide and support democracy. I must thank especially our coalition partners and the Government of Punjab for helping us reach this position and to the
Provinces. Let me promise you again that we are not short of the political will to accept your authorities and your rights. It is just a question of time. InshAllah, by the end of this month, we will be signing another landmark, taking the nation to another great height of democracy in action. Then again, we should prove to the world that Pakistan deserves democracy. We can prove to be a useful country, useful people and can help the world in the perspective of larger democracy.
Pakistan Paindabad.
As a nation, we face challenges, some of them undeniably tough, like the threat of extremism, a troubled economy, a...
