President's Trip to Kuwait
On 25 February 2011, President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Kuwait on a two-day official visit to join around 40 other world leaders in celebrating the countryâs 50th Independence Day. The invitation was handed over to President Zardari by Special Envoy Dr Maatouq Al Maatouq who visited Pakistan in December 2010. The President's visit also aimed at generating tremendous goodwill and enhance bilateral relations in investment, recruitment of labour and joint ventures.
During his visit, President Zardari held talks with the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Pakistanâs Ambassador in Kuwait, Iftikhar Aziz said that the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari had urged upon the Kuwaiti leadership to increase number of Pakistani skilled labour in Kuwait and the Kuwaiti leadershipâs response was hopeful in this regard.
During his meeting with Saudi Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, they discussed Pak-Saudi bilateral relations and regional situation.
In his meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, the two leaders agreed on facilitating their private sectors for increased joint ventures in trade and communication and gaining maximum benefit from their geo-strategic locations.
President Zardari also had separate informal interaction with President of Iraq Jalal Talabani, Governor General of Australia Ms Quentin Bryce, Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed of Oman, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former US Secretary of State Collin Powell.
